I assume materials made in 3ds Max Student version isn’t acceptable, even with my own textures and commercial renderer license. Is this the case? just seeking clarification.

No, that´s totally fine. For us everything is ok as long as the materials are a work of your own and don´t contain any textures from sources that don´t allow re-distribution.

After trying it for a couple days, couldn’t fight the urge to buy it. I also tried Project Manager, Autodesk Asset Library but they seemed really counter-intuitive. But MM isn’t perfect, either. I hope more support for the Slate Material Editor will come soon. Also, I’d like to edit and update an existing material instead of saving a new preset every time I modify one, not sure if there’s already a way to do this.

Finally published the material manager, which contains materials for 3d max.
Now you can easily select and set the material on the object.
Also every day uploading new materials !
For 3d max is a big plus and also for specialists in the visualization.
